A documentary film-maker follows a team of paranormal investigators on one of their investigations to an abandoned orphanage. He films them, as they film their show. He is disappointed to discover that much of the phenomena the team usually films has been created by their special effects guy. However, that disappointment is long forgotten as they delve into the orphanage’s horrendous past.
Yes another paranormal investigation, but this time we’re watching everything from the perspective of the guy there to document their practices. There is a bit of a build up at the beginning, where we see all the pre-investigation set up and get to see how the team interact with each other. It’s very obvious that all they’re interested in is putting out a good show; actual paranormal activity is not something they’re concerned with or even seem to believe in. This initial introduction to the team and their motivations explains why they make some of the choices they later do.
There is absolutely nothing new here. The story sticks to the normal tried and tested formula of these types of movies, but they do it well and so it is enjoyable to watch. Even though the characters have rather shallow and frivolous motivations, they are likeable, so I did not wish them dead as I do the characters in some other movies.
